Holy CRAP! USDAA Nationals in Denver???!!!

O.k., who saw that coming???!!!  Not me, that's for sure.  I swore up and down I'd never go to USDAA Nationals again until I was convinced they could organize themselves better but how can I not try to go to Nationals when it's 30.4 miles/44 minutes from my house??!!  And I've already missed a USDAA trial this coming weekend because let me tell you this was certainly not on my radar and I didn't want to go to a far away trial the weekend after DOCNA Champs.  And DOCNA Champs are also 40-45 minutes from my house this year just 3 weeks before USDAA Nationals.  What the heck is going on?  This throws a huge monkey wrench in my plans/goals for next year.

I'm warning you all though, Commerce City is GROSS.  Stinky big industrial power plants type gross.  And the site is next to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal which is full of nasty buried toxic waste.  Like I think it was a Superfund site at one time type of nasty toxic waste.  But still, 44 minutes from my house!  I'm still trying to wrap my brain around it.

Anybody want to team with Strummer for the March USDAA trial at Castle Rock?  He finally has his 22" Championship permanent height card.

  2. You should totally come!!! Plus it's outside so no dust storm. Maybe a snow storm but shhh, don't tell people about that. It should be nice and cool in any case.

  3. I know, can you believe it. I wouldn't have figured on outdoors in October here, well maybe the first week in October, but as the weeks go on, that chance for snow goes up.

Still you gotta try to go. We are at the USDAA in Fountain this weekend. Skye's team got the PVP Team Q, but Rip's team did not, so I will be trying again with him.

It's 86 miles away for us, but still I consider that in my backyard!

  4. Outdoors in mid-Oct. is definitely risky, Sept. would have been a better bet but still it could be really nice.

Congrats to Skye! Rip will get his Q. I would have sucked it up and gone to Fountain this weekend had I known, I wish they'd announce the date/venue before the qualifying period starts but usually they wait until Feb. so this is still better notice than usual.

86 miles is nothing and you have an RV right? I'm not thrilled with driving 1 1/2-2 hours each day but what a luxury to be able to sleep in my own bed each night and not have to spend all the money on hotels and gas.

  5. That is so cool for Coloradans! And not impossibly far for Californians (although scottsdale is still closer ;-) .

  6. Yeah, it's hard to see how you could not go when it's that close. Sounds like kind of a crummy area. is there anything nice about the site?

  7. I've been talking to people who are familiar with the site and apparently it's an awesome facility, lush green grassy fields as far as the eye can see so I'm not worried at all about the site itself.

I don't know anything about the area directly surrounding the site other than the Rocky Mountain Arsenal/Wildlife Refuge and I suggest everyone stay out of that. Take 20 minutes and drive somewhere nice to go hiking/stretch your legs.

But as far as hotels, restaurants and the general character of the area right around the trial site, I don't know. It looks like the site is on the edge of town, not in the heart of the industrial area. The oil refinery is right off the highway and easy to spot/smell so it's easy to avoid. I doubt there are hotels around it anyway but if I was coming from out of town it's something I would look out for when picking a hotel.

Commerce City is very small, you can drive 10 minutes and be out of it. Downtown Denver is probably a 15 minute drive if that.
